Marisa began her yoga journey when she was seventeen years old. She had been dancing since the age of two, and figured the strength and flexibility she had developed through dance would make yoga a piece of cake. When she stepped into her first yoga class (Hot Yoga), her initial reaction was to turn around and go home. It was hot, humid, and the poses she was guided into were shockingly difficult. By the end of class her egotistic dancer thoughts were humbled, and to her surprise, she felt an intense desire to return to yoga again, and again, and again.
When Marisa attended Western Michigan University to earn her BA in Dance, her yoga practice helped tremendously with the mental and physical stress of her major. The physical practice aided her body during injury, and helped maintain her overall strength and flexibility. The mental and spiritual practice of yoga kept her mind healthy when dealing with rejection, body image comparison, and general collegiate academic stress. By her senior year of college, Marisa knew that she wanted to continue her education with yoga, and share the benefits with others.
Marisa finds her passion lies in teaching Vinyasa and Hatha yoga, but loves teaching Yin as a reminder to slow down, and find balance in her personal practice and her teaching. She approaches every class with an open mind, knowing that each person that walks into the room is unique, and is on their own individual path. Marisa’s goal is for every person to leave her class with a smile on their face, feeling better than they did when they first walked in.
Heather has been leading group yoga practices since 2003. First trained and certified by YogaFit, Heather began teaching in open markets. As a group fitness and ballroom dance instructor she introduced yoga philosophies into her other exercises classes, but as her personal practice developed, Heather realigned her focus and began to further her yoga teachings.
In the following years Heather returned to YogaFit for subsequent levels of instructor training. Now fully invested, Heather has nurtured her personal development through workshops with many accredited yogis including, Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Jason Crandell, and Aadil Palkhivala. After meeting with Sri Dharma Mittra, and embracing his philosophies, Heather traveled to Kripalu for another 200hr teacher training to further enhance her teachings.
Through all of her trainings Heather has gained increased knowledge and teacher tactics. She has done very well introducing yoga to groups of unsuspecting newcomers, as well as opening doors to underutilized facilities.
We invite you to explore your yoga journey with Heather’s unique ability to create both a challenging and inviting classes to yogis of all levels.
"I love having new students explore yoga for their first time as well as continued teaching to students that have been with me through the years."
